All natural, handmade crackers that go perfectly with Vermont Cheese and more

Like our all natural Westminster Crackers the recipe for Whitney’s Castleton Crackers originated in the early 1800’s. Josiah Bent from Massachusetts decided to make a lighter and thinner version of Hardtack, a soldiers and seafarers staple. Bent rolled out sheets of dough, baked and had “cracked” them. Today, this original recipe has been adopted by Whitney’s Castleton Crackers made in Castleton Vermont; providing a beautiful, all natural Artisan cracker that is rustic and delicious. Choose from three flavors all named after beautiful and quaint Vermont counties and towns:

  • Middlebury Maple: This slightly sweet cracker hints at maple and pairs well with sharp cheddar, brie or creamy goat’s milk cheese. Also, enjoy Middlebury Maple crackers with a bowl of your favorite soup or chili.
  • Rutland Rye: A hearty crunchy cracker topped with caraway, sesame and poppy seeds, is a unique whole grain treat. Pairs well with any cheese and gets rave reviews served with hummus, Dakin Farm smoked pepperoni or alongside lentil soup.
  • Windham Wheat: A simple buttery cracker that is slightly salty and rounds out cheese plates wonderfully. Serve with any Artisan cheese and Dakin Farm chutney or alongside our extra thick Shanty on the shore Clam Chowder for a special treat.
